The German Cockroach is 1/2 to 5/8 of an inch long when it is mature. German cockroaches are tan to light brown in color, and have fully developed wings. The adult males are narrower than the females. In her lifetime the female German cockroach will produce 4 to 8 capsules each containing 30 to 40 eggs. Adults live 100 to 200 days. German cockroaches are the most common household insect within the United States. This pest is mostly found in kitchens and bathrooms but will live anywhere in heated structures.


The American Cockroach is 1-3/8 to 2-1/8 inches long when it is mature, and characterized by fully developed wings that cover the entire abdomen. The nymphs are 1/4-inch long at the time they emerge from their egg capsule and are grayish-brown. As the development stage continues they become more reddish-brown. The American cockroach female produces from 9 to 10 egg capsules which contain 14 to 16 eggs. Adult females live an average of 440 days and the males will live about 200 days.
