The Striped Bark Scorpions are non-insect arthropods. The adults average about 2-3/8 inches in length. The tail of the male is longer than the females. The body color of adults varies from yellowish to tan and is marked with two broad, blackish stripes on the upper surface of the abdomen. The younger specimens may be overall lighter in color, and the last segment of the body is dark brown to black. One characteristic of this species is the long slender tail. Their mating takes place in the fall, spring and early summer.

Development usually takes about 8 months, but varies depending on the species. Their young are born in litter sizes from 13 to 47, averaging about 31. Their young will climb onto the mother’s back after birth and soon molt. After the first molt the young will disperse and go on to lead independent lives. The Immature scorpions molt an average of six times before maturity. Some species of this scorpion will live for about 20 to 25 years but the typical scorpion will probably live between 3 and 8 years. The adults may produce several broods.
